Hello darlings…
I'm anissa C. Butler - a.k.a. ab THE md 🤓
I'm a resident physician from Jackson, Mississippi. My primary mission is to help bring about health liberation for the Black community. While on this mission, I’d like to inspire people (especially Black people) to do everything they dream of. In spite of the lowest lows, I strive to do everything I can fathom. I share my story, my voice, and my content in the hopes that someone can learn from a new perspective. I hope that someone will see my transparency, apply lessons from my struggles to their own journey, and start immediately on that those things they previously thought were too *insert adjective here*. Allow yourself to BE as you wish — it’s what I’m always trying to do.
Most days you can find me with my head in a book, in the hospital taking care of patients, or studying as I learn something new in medicine daily.
When I’m not reading or studying, I’m usually dancing and singing, doing something with my art or business, listening to a podcast, exploring something new, writing random ideas in a notebook, or encouraging someone!
I am most known for blowing up social media with pictures of my adorable nephew & niece, contagious smiles, probably a few mood swings (I’m passionate, what can I say?), intense goofiness, an exciting vocabulary (the four-letter words are frequent), and genuine love for life on earth.
A few unconventional passions:
cartoons (seriously all kinds — current fave: Steven Universe, Rebecca Sugar I love you!!)
Real Housewives of Atlanta (yes I said it, reality TV)
creating outfits on the “combyne” app (trying out looks & I don’t have to pay for it?? Yes.)
handwriting (if your handwriting is pretty I may ask you to write something so I can stare at it)
screenshotting a bunch of quotes that I’ll never look at again (Instagram’s save feature has saved me tons of space on my phone lol)
Instagram: @abthemd (for med-related & general “Anissa” things) or @soulbeinghuman (for more of my reflections & exploration in this world of ours)
How can you benefit from reading this blog?
My goal is to share my reflections in order to spark your personal reflection and increased awareness. I want to show you how I do it all in medical school and in life while showing you how we can completely rebuild the approach to our community’s healthcare. If you can take one sentence out of my posts and apply it to your life and your community, I feel accomplished and I thank you for your time & attention!
Make sure to come back for more! Feel free to send any questions or suggestions via the contact page.
Much love!
