Good Morning = Good Life

When I say I have tried multiple times to “wake up early and be productive”, I mean I have failed to make this a habit an endless amount of times. But this time has been different…
Do you want to know the secret to having a good day? The secret to getting up early and actually being happy about it? The way to be as productive as you wish you could be everyday?
A morning routine.
No joke.
I know you’ve probably read this a million times on all the productivity blogs, Pinterest posts, retweets, and Facebook reposts, but hear me out.
Every time I’ve tried to wake up early and just do it to make a habit, it has not worked. Why? I had no genuine reason to get up. Getting up to be more productive is not a valid reason. It’s not specific enough. Why do you want to get up at 4 or 5 am?
I realized what I was missing from my day was something so valuable to me that I had lost touch with myself because I wasn’t doing this daily. I absolutely have to have time for me — that is, my growth and happiness. So I made that my reason to wake up early. I want to get up at 4 or 5 am daily, so that I can spend time with myself. I did this by inserting things that make me feel so good that I can conquer the rest of the day:
-meditation
-motivational videos
-affirmations
-gratitude
-reading
-breakfast
-planning
-visualization
Just like that, I have a reason to get up! I get up to take care of myself before I take care of anything else.
My first morning “waking up for me” was so amazing that it did not take much to continue this for the next week. I began my days feeling confident, encouraged, at peace, accomplished, and focused. I was not rushed (which led to another consistent habit of being early). I woke up and began my day the way I wanted, and this reward causes me to continue to wake up early (unless I’ve pulled an all-nighter for an exam lol).
Feeling this good led to me to make even more decisions that would benefit me in the long-run. I started exercising, eating cleaner, journaling my thoughts and ideas, and staying focused on my ultimate goals.
What do you feel you don’t have time for but would like to make time for? Try inserting that into your mornings. Is it worth waking up an hour (or more) earlier? I decided it was, & I haven’t looked back.
